The Broad Run recycling plant does the following:

• Recycles wood that is then turned into colored mulch and animal bedding for farms and ranches.
• Processes aggregate (brick, block and concrete) which is recycled into material for road construction.
• Bales cardboard which is sent to be made into new paper products at plants in Richmond, VA.
• Processes gypsum/drywall (which is lime-based) and recycles it into a soil enhancer for farming.
• Collects tons of electrical wiring and scrap ferrous and non-ferrous metal that is sold to overseas shippers and is ultimately melted to recover the metals.
• Separates the remaining dirt to be used as an alternative daily cover for local municipal solid waste landfills (the dirt is spread over the waste after the landfill closes each day).
